The dreaded friend zone, where attraction and sexual interest come to die.

Because I’m a big fan of explaining human attraction and behavior through bio-mechanics and science,

We’re going to look at a curious behavior practiced by female Baboons.

In the beginning of a mating season, female baboons have sex with the most dominant male they can find.

After they know that they are pregnant, they THEN have sex with all the other males in their social circle.

Following the birth of their child, all the males give her equal attention and protection because no one knows whose son it is.

The above example beautifully explains why females keep guys that like them as friends without having sex with them.

It is the most ingenious female social convention invented to date. It allows a girl to preserve the attention

She receives from a guy WITHOUT giving him sex. Hence why women have a vested interest in keeping a guy

Who likes them CONTINUOUSLY liking them. It is the male equivalent of having a girl you can have sex with,

Without giving her any attention. She has essentially achieved her goal in a female-male dynamic (protection, attention, nourishment) for free.

Thus the bane of the AFC; the girl he wants so badly keeps him in the “friend zone.”

She gives him attention, she calls him over, she gives him hope, but never the ultimate fruits of his efforts. In effect,

She has subdued his masculinity and maximized his utility while saving her intimacy for a guy she’s actually attracted to.
